而明代彩瓷大致可分为：一、釉上红彩，是在白釉器上以红彩绘画花纹。ニ、青花红彩，是釉下青花和釉上红彩相结合的工艺品。三、斗彩，则是以釉下青花绘画花纹的轮廓，然后填以各种釉上色彩。四、五彩本是各色釉上彩的结合，不过在很多情形下，釉下青花亦成为其中一种颜色，这类五彩器，严格来说应称作青花五彩器，彩瓷需经两次烧制，第一次入窰烧至摄氏度1.100度高温，以稳定胎体、釉下蓝彩和透明釉；第二次入窰烧至摄氏850度低温，以稳定釉上彩料。各种彩瓷之中尤以成化斗彩最珍贵，盛名於世。
